Past papers vs model papers
A past paper is a real paper from an earlier year. A model paper is a sample built to show the current pattern and mark split. Since the Grade 5 and Grade 8 board exams were only revived in 2026, there are not many past papers yet — so the model paper for the current session is the one to rely on. Older Punjab Examination Commission papers are still useful for practice because the syllabus and style are close.
What each paper looks like
Every subject paper is one morning session and usually has three parts: a multiple-choice section covering the whole syllabus, short questions of a few lines each, and longer questions — essays, full working, or detailed answers. The model paper shows exactly how the marks are divided, which tells you where to spend your time.
How to use them well
- Do it timed. Sit the whole paper in one go with a clock, not question by question over a week.
- Mark it honestly against the answer key or with a teacher.
- Fix the misses. Spend revision time on the topics you got wrong, not the ones you already know.
- Practise the writing. For English and Urdu, write full essays and letters — reading model answers is not enough.
A four-week plan
| Week | Focus |
|---|---|
| 4 weeks out | Finish the syllabus. One model paper per subject, open book, just to see the shape of it. |
| 3 weeks out | One timed paper per subject. Mark it. List the weak topics. |
| 2 weeks out | Revise only the weak topics. A second timed paper for the two hardest subjects. |
| Final week | Light revision, past-paper questions on shaky areas, early nights. Pack the exam bag. |
Where to find them
Model papers for the current session are published on pectaa.edu.pk and are usually shared by schools. Make sure any paper you practise from matches the current textbooks and session — an old edition can have topics that are no longer examined.
