PECTAA roll number slip — Grade 5 & Grade 8

The 5th and 8th class exams each have their own roll number slip. Pick the class below for the details specific to it. The rest of this page explains what a slip contains, how schools issue it, and what to do if it is lost.

What the roll number slip is

It is the document a candidate must bring to sit the paper. Without it, the invigilator may not let the student into the hall. The board generates it once a school's registration is accepted, and it links the student to a specific seat at a specific centre.

What is printed on it

The layout varies a little between boards, but every slip carries:

  • Roll number — the number used to look up the result later.
  • Student's name and father's name, date of birth and B-Form number.
  • Class and the list of subjects the student is registered for.
  • Exam centre — the name and address of the building where papers are held.
  • Reporting time, the school's name and code, and the headmaster's signature and stamp.

How to get it

Roll number slips are not issued to families directly. The process is:

  1. The board prints the slips

After a school's registration is accepted on the IBS portal, the board generates a slip for every candidate.

  2. The school receives them

Slips are sent to each school a week or two before the first paper, with the seating and centre details.

  3. Students collect from school

The class teacher or exam coordinator hands them out. Check the details on the spot and raise any mistake immediately.

Some boards also allow a download

A few divisional boards let schools reprint a slip from their portal, and occasionally publish a candidate download close to the exams. If your board offers this, the link appears on the notification — and on the class page above.

Check these details before the exam

A mistake on the slip can hold up the result card later, so verify it as soon as you receive it:

  • Name and father's name spelled exactly as on the school records.
  • Date of birth and B-Form number correct, digit for digit.
  • The right subjects listed for the class — no missing or extra paper.
  • Centre address and reporting time — do a practice trip to the centre if it is unfamiliar.

If the slip is lost

Do not panic, and do not leave it until exam morning. Go to the school office and ask for a duplicate — schools can reprint a candidate's slip from the board's system. Take the duplicate to the centre with the school's confirmation. Keeping a clear photo of the original on a parent's phone from the start avoids this entirely.

When are slips issued?

  1. Registration closes
Schools finish entering candidates on the IBS portal.
  2. Slips generated
The board prints a slip for each accepted candidate.
  3. Slips reach schools
Usually a week or two before the first paper.
  4. Students collect them
Handed out in class; check the details straight away.
  5. Exam day
Bring the slip — the invigilator checks it at the door.

Roll number slip questions

The board sends slips to each registered school shortly before the exams. Students collect them from the school office, not from the authority directly.
Yes. Each class has its own slip listing that class's subjects, centre and reporting time. Use the 5th class or 8th class slip as appropriate.

Report any wrong name, father's name or date of birth to your school at once. Corrections are made through the board before the result is compiled.
It makes the result search quicker because it carries the roll number, but you can also search by name if the slip is lost.
