The basics

What PECTAA is, in plain terms

PECTAA stands for the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority. The Punjab government set it up in 2025 by merging three older bodies into one: the Punjab Examination Commission, which ran student assessments; the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, which handled syllabi and textbooks; and the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development, which trained teachers.

For most families the important part is simple. PECTAA now conducts the Grade 5 and Grade 8 examinations that were paused for several years and brought back in 2026. It sets the papers, marks them, and publishes the results for every district in Punjab.

How to check a 5th or 8th class result

There are three common ways, and they all read from the same records. Pick whichever is easiest for you.

  1. By roll number

    The quickest route. Type the roll number from the slip exactly, choose the class and year, and search.

  2. By name

    Useful when the slip is lost. Enter the student's name and father's name, then match the school and district.

  3. From the school gazette

    Every school receives a full results sheet for its candidates. Ask your class teacher or the school office.

How one cycle runs

The order stays the same from year to year. Only the exact dates move, so treat this as a map rather than a calendar.

  1. Registration
    Schools enrol candidates on the IBS portal within the announced window.
  2. Roll number slips
    Issued to schools shortly before the papers begin.
  3. Date sheet
    The paper-by-paper schedule is published for each class.
  4. Examinations
    Held in spring, district by district, under the nine boards.

PECTAA exams: quick answers

PECTAA is the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority. It was formed in 2025 and now looks after curriculum, teacher training and student assessment for the province — including the Grade 5 and Grade 8 exams the Punjab Examination Commission used to run.
The school does. Each institution enters its candidates on the online Item Bank System (IBS) portal within the dates PECTAA announces. Parents do not register directly, but it is worth confirming with the school that your child's details were submitted correctly.
In 2026 the Grade 5 and Grade 8 results were released together in April, a few weeks after the papers ended. The exact date shifts every year, so check the official notification from your board once the exam season is over.
In the 2026 cycle a student needed 33% in each subject. If someone falls short in one or more papers, there is normally a supplementary exam later in the year, so the whole year does not have to be repeated.
Yes. Use the search-by-name option with the student's name, father's name, school and district, or ask the school office for the gazette entry. The roll number only makes the search quicker.
