How the Grade 5 syllabus is set

PECTAA absorbed the old Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, so the same body writes the curriculum, approves the textbooks and sets the papers. For Grade 5 that means the exam is based directly on the prescribed Grade 5 textbooks for the current session — nothing from outside the books, and nothing from a different edition. If your school teaches the full year's content from the approved books, the syllabus is covered.

Grade 5 subjects

SubjectWhat it covers
EnglishReading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, guided writing and a short composition.
UrduComprehension, grammar (قواعد), letter or application writing, and a paragraph or essay.
MathematicsNumbers and operations, fractions and decimals, measurement, geometry basics, and simple data handling.
General ScienceLiving things, the human body, matter and energy, Earth and space, and everyday science.
Islamiyat / EthicsBasic beliefs and practices, selected Surahs and their meaning, and the lives of the Prophets — or Ethics for non-Muslim students.

Your roll number slip lists the subjects and the reporting time for each paper.

Medium of instruction

The paper matches how the subject is taught. An English-medium school sits Mathematics and General Science in English; an Urdu-medium school sits them in Urdu. The English paper is always in English and the Urdu paper always in Urdu, whatever the school's medium. Islamiyat is usually in Urdu.

The Grade 5 paper pattern

Each paper is a single morning session and usually mixes:

  • Objective section — multiple-choice questions covering the whole syllabus.
  • Short questions — a sentence or two each, with some choice.
  • Longer questions — a short paragraph, a worked sum, or a labelled diagram.

The model paper for each subject shows the exact split of marks, which tells you where to spend revision time.

Using Grade 5 model papers

PECTAA publishes a model paper for every Grade 5 subject. Have the child do at least one full paper per subject under timed conditions, mark it together, and revise the parts that went wrong rather than re-reading everything. Our past papers page has a simple plan.

5th class syllabus questions

Five: English, Urdu, Mathematics and General Science, plus Islamiyat or Ethics. The papers follow the national curriculum for primary classes.
Five papers, one per day, in the morning over about a week.
It matches the medium of instruction. English-medium schools sit science and mathematics in English; Urdu-medium schools sit them in Urdu. Language papers are always in their own language.
The curriculum documents and model papers are published on pectaa.edu.pk, and your school follows the prescribed Grade 5 textbooks. This page is a plain-English summary.
